Donald Trump, who was running for the elections in 2020, lost the election to Joe Biden. Because of the post-election events on many social media platforms, Donald Trump was censored. Trump founded Truth Social for freedom of speech.
But Donald Trump’s thoughts are still seen as dangerous by big tech firms. So much so that Truth Social could not get approval from Google and was refused to be published on the Google Play Store. It is unclear what Donald Trump will do about the issue because the Google Play Store is the official platform for Android users. And that means millions of users won’t be able to access the app.
Truth Social has physical threats and incitement to violence contents, said by Google
According to a Google spokesperson on Tuesday, former US President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, failed to gain approval from the Google Play Store. The reason was in violation of policies that prohibit content such as physical threats and incitement to violence.
At the same time, it automatically removes the application on Android phones with Google Play Protect turned on. Android phones make up about 40 percent of the US smartphone market. This also applies to iOS users. In this way, smartphone users will not be able to download Truth Social without Google and Apple stores.
Devin Nunes, CEO of Truth Social, said last week that the decision whether the app will be available on Google Play is up to the Google Play Store. Google, on the other hand, stated that it is Truth Social’s responsibility to comply with the rules.
Donald Trump’s social media accounts were deactivated by big social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter. Do you think censorship inhibits freedom of thought? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments!
